We monitor compliance with two federal environmental cleansing laws – RCRA and superfund law. The TPA defines and evaluates the clean-up obligations of both laws and provides standards on which we measure Hanford`s work to determine whether it was done correctly and on time. Once the clean-up operations are completed, Energy is required to provide us with evidence to confirm that the work complies with the terms of the agreement. We then share adjustment status updates and announce when milestones and rules have been met. You must be logged in as a subscriber to view this page. In 1989, three government agencies came together to sign the Hanford Federal Guarantee and Insurance Agreement, best known as the Tri-Party Agreement (TPA). Our nuclear waste program focuses on protecting radioactive and chemically hazardous waste from the dangers. We work with the EPO to ensure that the work undertaken by Energy and its contractors complies with laws relating to the treatment, storage and management of chemical and nuclear waste.
You can help with the cleanup by participating in public meetings and comment sessions. Your input allows us to focus on the topics that are most important to you, allowing us to more effectively enforce the milestones outlined in the TPA. Imminent opportunities for public participation are included in the TPA events calendar. Either agency may request changes to the AAA, including a process for approving amendments and resolving disputes. In addition, the TPA defines a public participation process, in which we invite the public to participate in decision-making before significant changes can be made. No subscriber yet?
